SIMPSON FARMHOUSE GETTING A NEW LIFE
The Simpson Farmhouse or Unity House stands at the entrance of
the Mount Dora WT Bland Library entrance. For years it served as
the headquarters of the Mount Dora Historic Society but has
changed hands and is now a part of the WT Bland Public Library.
When repairs are complete, it will serve as a meeting center for
non-profit organizations, civic groups and the like.

There is a lot of work currently being planned and done to repair
the 1903 building to its former glory.

Currently a group of volunteers led by Mount Dora Library
President Al Wittnebert have been doing repairs to the aging and
neglected structure. Members of the Library Association and the
Historic Society are currently putting their skill and talent to
replacing worn boards in the porch and around the house as well
as siding and a new paint job inside and out.

“As a library asset, we have an obligation to put this building back
in shape for the enjoyment of the community” Wittnebert says.
“Unfortunately we are receiving no help at this time from local
home improvement facilities or contractors. Our hope is to do this
project without the use of tax money. All departments are
strapped for cash and it would be unfair to ask them to allocate
funds from their already depleted budgets.

Those interested in contributing to this worthwhile cause can call
the library at 352 735. 7180.
